Christmas memory – gift giving by an 8-year old

I really do love the holiday season. I like seeing people in their hustle and bustle from Thanksgiving on getting ready to spend time with their family and friends.

Unfortunately, for many, it means spending money to buy gifts, and the pressure and guilt it brings to impress or surprise. I think I remember that stress at the age of 8. Where does a 8-year old get money? My parents gave my brother and I an allotment to spend on gifts. I don’t remember what the dollar amount was but I do remember a couple of things we bought: drinking glasses and bacon.

Piqued your curiosity?  What was behind the idea of those two gifts?

#1-Drinking Glasses – My brother and I shared doing the dishes as a chore and I remember breaking a few dishes. (Sure beats cleaning them!) I thought for Christmas, we’d buy them replacements!

#2-BACON- On the weekends, we would have a family breakfast. Christmas must have fallen on a weekend that year and we thought, in our five and eight-year old minds that we needed to buy bacon to celebrate our WEEKEND Christmas.

Very practical gifts don’t you think?

So, how does this relate to a craft blog? I think this was one of my earliest memories of learning to crochet. With a limited Christmas budget, the days leading up to Christmas, I made bookmarks for all of my family and friends. (I think all of my classmates got a bookmark.)

I have not made crochet bookmarks in years but if you are interested: https://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-curly-fringe/ img_0543.png
